From: Carona_Guy on 30 Apr 2007 06:47 Ok, its pretty simple really. Method: Open bonnet. Make sure ignition is off. Look on top of the airflow meter box. There should be three yellow dongles. one has one wire going to it, one has two, the other has three. Get a bit of wire from where ever. Take the rubber cover off the dongle with two wires. Use the wire to short between the two terminals. ie stick an end of the wire in each hole. Once you have done that turn ignition to on (don't start). The engine check light should start blinking. There is a lengthy pause at the beginning of the sequence. Then it should start emptying all the error codes since the last time the battery was disconnected. ie. for my car it went. Long pause "three blinks" Short pause "11 blinks" Long pause (start again) "three blinks" .... etc... here are the codes for the 1985 22R-E motors only!! *SYSTEM* *Trouble area* 1 blink............system normal....................no malfunction 2 blinks..........Airflow meter signal........ ....(1)Airflow meter circuit (2)Airflow meter (3)Computer 3 blinks.......Ignition Signal.......................(1)Igniter circuit(+B, IGT, IGF) (2)igniter (3)Computer 4 blinks......Water Thermo sensor signal......(1)Thermo sensor circuit (2)Thermo sensor (3)Computer 5 blinks......Oxygen sensor signal...............(1)Oxygen sensor circuit (2)Oxygen sensor (3)Computer 6 blinks......RPM signal.............................(1)igniter circuit (2)igniter (3)Distributer (4)Computer 7 blinks.....Throttle position sensor.............(1)sensor circuit (2)sensor (3)Computer 8 blinks.....Intake air thermo sensor signal...(1)sensor circuit (2)sensor (3)Computer 10 blinks...starter signal...........................(1)speed sensor circuit (2)main relay circuit (3)ignition switch circuit (4)ignition switch (5)computer 11 blinks.... Jason if you are still following this thread thank you very much for the advice. I am really sorry to have wasted your time with my diagnostic errors. I promise next time I'll be more thorough! I hope that my next post will be a quick post of success and automotive happiness. :) ps. I'm told that the "11 blinks" is quite common, and not a drama. -- Carona_Guy
From: Carona_Guy on 4 May 2007 21:39 Well I have changed the coil igniter pack and so far there has been no dramas. Its so good just to be able to drive again, without having to worry about breaking down in the middle of an intersection. I guess thats all from me. Thanks again (and sorry) to Jason for all the advice :) ciao -- Carona_Guy
