Had it towed to the RACV depot. they just called me. The conversation
went as follows:

"Mechanic" (note use of inverted commas!) Uh, we THINK it's got a
faulty starter motor, and that's stopping it from cranking, but the
guy that attended the car last night, said it was cranking fine last
night! Right now, it's just making clicking noises and not cranking
the motor!
Me: um, that would be because it's got a flat battery mate!
"Mechanic": Oh, has it?
Me: Yes! I flattened trhe battery trying to start it yesterday, and
when the RACV guy came, he put his battery booster machine on it and
was cranking it using that!
"Mechanic:": Oh! OK, we'll I just go and check if we overlooked the
flat battery and call you back!

Haven't heard back again yet! lol! Fucken muppets! I'm no mechanic,
but when a car won't start, even I know to check battery, spark, and
fuel first!

Maybe he watches too much TV, you know where they are cranking the motor
over just fine but it won't fire, so it's obviously a flat battery

Or the engine won't turn over so they open the "Hood" and check the fuel
throttlebody of the EFI and get oil sprayed on them and confirm it's the
carby

Just rang them. Apparently the battery is not flat. It had a lose
connection somewhere, but they still can't get it to fire up. They
have confirmed it has spark, has fuel, and whilst they haven't done a
compression test, they said it certainly sounds like it has
compression. He's now suspecting something in the distributor. Hmmm.
Maybe I should go work for the RACV, considering that's what I
suspected it was in the first place!
We'll see how we go.

If it has good spark and fuel,..you start to get into ignition timing and
even valve timing if it has a rubber-toothed drive belt for the cams. If you
had a timing light, you could have checked the timing during cranking ie
trigger TL from number one cylinder,..aim at crankshaft pulley,..should get
a burst of light close or at the timing marks,..especially about 10 degrees
before TDC for number one.
Other things like TDC sensor, massive airleaks, stuffed PCV valve (fucks
mixture) and any other sensors relevant, can be the cause. In cases like
this, a google on Toyota usenet groups, can tell you heaps :-)
Engines dont suddenly lose so much compression that they fail to start,..its
a progressive thing. If the spark is good at the coil,..that doesnt mean its
getting to the plugs. A punched dizzy cap can poleaxe ignition (multiple
carbon tracks thru cap which get much worse when the humidity rises for
example. Best O luck,..dont take it to Toyota,.they rip you off.

when they say "It's goty fuel" what do they mean
there is fuel in the tank?
or fuel is getting up to the injectors

did they check all the fuses/relays?
it's EFI so could be as simple as a loose wire
or your EFI module has gone
