Lots of negative with them on the looks, the smell (haven't found one yet that doesn't stink inside) and the dull-looking paintwork. But they serve Italian farmers well and they feel huge inside for the size of car. It's basically the same floorpan as the Alfa.

Just check when it last had the cambelt done, though - if it's due (remember they're due at 36k miles, or 48k at a push) then it's worth scrap value only, 'cos you need to budget around 300 quid to have the job done properly. Before anyone says 'I would't bother on a 500 quid car, just take a chance' - that's a definite no-no on an Alfa, 'cos you *know* it'll shred itself 10 miles down the road. -- SteveH 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - Hongdou GY200 - Alfa 75 TSpark Alfa 156 TSpark - B6 Passat 2.0TDI SE - COSOC KOTL BOTAFOT #87 - BOTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC #

Better avoid the Alfa then, because that won't get anywhere within a month.

It hardly felt like a 10+ year 170k miler. But. The last evidence of a cambelt change was at 70000, the dealer being sure that it's one owner was sure to have had it done wasn't enough for me. And after a test drive it had spewed a bit of coolant out of the tank, I dipped my fingers in and there was a smell not unlike smoke. So thats that, though at least now I know that I love 146's. I also drove his Xantia as well, it was just too drab. Apart from the Alfa I have to say that the more cars I try, the more I love our Multipla.

Closest modern car I can think of that lives up to the 'Sud. We couldn't find a nice one, which is why we ended up with the 156. -- SteveH 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - Hongdou GY200 - Alfa 75 TSpark Alfa 156 TSpark - B6 Passat 2.0TDI SE - COSOC KOTL BOTAFOT #87 - BOTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC #
