I owned and used a Bedford CA van in the late 60's that had no heater; it
was grim!

that was the first vehicle I drove (when I was six) column change, sliding
doors, nice hot engine cover, that little flap to check the water with a
lovely little handle that used to catch your skin as you twisted it and give
you a blood blister.

Climate control is merely the automatic control of air temp/direction
flaps & fan speed to maintain a pre-set temperature with minimal user
intervention. It's just a front-end control to the same old back-end. A
hot-water heater matrix and an aircon evaporator.

I had one of those stick-on window demisters, can't remember which car,
might have been the A40 Devon.

The 1936 Standard 10 had a windscreen which could be wound open with a
knob on the dash, that was handy in fog or in very hot weather. :)
