Oh they are easy to spot - if you try to turn and find you cannot turn,
you have found a rail. You then just need to decide to fall off to the
left, or the right :-)

Looking at the video, the chances are, because you see any of the beam
from his bike light, it is probably too bright and therefore illegal.

There is no minimum brightness for a bike light, but for it to be legal
it must be BS or E marked, and there is a maximum brightness. Something
like 3/3.5 watts.

I bike like isn't mean't to illuminate the way for the rider, it is
designed show that the cyclist is there.

Having said that, I would never ride my bike at night without 27watt
Night Suns. 7watt dip/riding beam, 20watt long range flood beam. Totally
illegal and not sold in the UK for road use, so I had to lie to the
company I bought them from.

Old tech. LEDs have pretty much completely superseded those old halogen
lumps. Generally lower power and as bright as you want. Pity about the
prices :-(

Can I make a proposal that the newsgroups uk.rec.cycling and
uk.rec.driving swap names? The former is already littered with post
about cars and driving, and now we have cycling-related posts to a
driving newsgroup. Or have I missed some redefinition of these words?

Perhaps there could be a newsgroup that combined the two - and other road
vehicles?

Since it focussed on transport more generally, it could be called
uk.transport, p'raps?
