Out of the 34 or so on the list I have heard of 13, seems like the rest
are only famous in their own lunch box:-)

yeah it can be a bit hard when they spent most of their childhood in another
country :-)

I've heard of *some*, and my wife being a rabid fanatical Kiwi just looked
over my shoulder and had heard of about three more than me :)

I'm actually surprised that anyone blurting about famous Kiwi's wouldn't
rate Bruce McLaren at the top, or near the top, of their list in terms of
significant achievements on the world stage. A brilliant race car driver and
engineer, he was at one point the youngest driver ever to win a Formula 1
Grand Prix at age 22 (from memory) and went on to form his own team that
still exists to this day.

His death in 1970 in a race car testing accident was a great loss, and had
he lived he would most likely be the only other man aside from Jack Brabham
to win a Formula 1 World Championship in a car of his own construction.

It's called local insulation (and media filtering)
very common in the continental USA
rather like when the Ozzies lose in rugby its a near thing on a 30
points spread but a 4 point win in airial pingpong is a thrashing...
perceptions eh wot ?
