I've made some calls. One auto electrician said another actuator must
be fubarred. One ford dealer said the thing about the modification to
the BEM. Another Ford place was much more helpful and has faxed an
instructional sheet to my mechanic, informing him how to action a minor
rewiring task that needs to be done to fix this exact issue that I have
described. The mechanic said he'd already fitted the patch harness that
came with the new actuator, but the Ford guy said this is something
else that also needs to be done. Seems the Ford guy was aware that the
new actuators are slightly different from the originally installed
equipment, and this re-wire bit is the fix.
Hopefully, this will see it sorted.

usually right
but having pulled one apart,
modification would I think have to involve using a latch from a
different vehicle that fits in the same position, maybe EF/EL model

then you still have the problem of the missing components in the
vehicle's security system

missing or faulty items can stop the system from working and make the
car not start

things are getting a lot more difficult these days, especially to do
with the security systems, supposed to circumvent re manufacturing of cars
