My series 1 AU decided it wanted to not lock the passenger front door
any longer.
Gave it to the mechanic down the road, and he said the actuator needs
replacing. No worries, told him to do it. All the doors now lock.
However, everytime you unlock the doors, ALL the door actuators cycle
2-3 times, and everytime you open ANY door, ALL the actuators cycle 2-3
times. The mechanic has no idea as to why. I called Ford, and they
asked if the mechanic has done the modification to the body electrics
module. The mechanic has no idea what that is, and neither do I. Anyone
have any ideas on how to fix this please? Also, since the actuator was
replaced, the auto lock function doen't work anymore. (That's when you
unlock the car but don't open any doors, it's supposed to lock itself
again after a few minutes.)
I've taken out all the actuators and inspected the range of movement of
all the various bits, and they all appear to be working fine. It's got
me stumped. Hoping someone here can help plase.

It usually locks itself after about 30 seconds

Look at cleaning your remote control
pull it apart and clean the contacts with acetone

Any chance you have the original faulty actuator that you could
reinstall for diagnostic purposes? It's possible that the replacment
actuator is incompatible with the body electrics module (whatever and
wherever that is) without the modification.

Id say that the actualtor needs readjusting. This happens when you have it too high or too low from
ideal.

Its called motorboating and its when you actuate it down it hits the switch and that sends it down
again. As the central lock signal might be for 2 or 3 seconds it stops after a few up/downs. Pull
off the door trim and remount it slightly lower try again and if its worse try mount it higher.

That may be the problem, I remember my son's EF had a similar problem
when he first got it, I could get the central locking to work properly
by adjusting the position of the actuator but it didn't last long and I
found the problem was really caused by wear in the door lock, replaced
the door lock and problem fixed.
