I find bifocals are perfect for flying.
I've had mine made with the break a little higher than normal so that
it sits just below the top of the panel.
I have to tilt my head back to see OAT and compass but the rest are
clearly in focus.

I've had a few pairs of photochromatic glasses and never had any of them
turn yellow, maybe yours are a different brand?
AFAIK mine are "Transitions".
