since the last of the 380s about 1978 so "original" and "old" are a bit

I don't know the "mechanics" of that, but it clearly didn't on this day.

He was revving the ring off the thing in low gear and after we lost sight of
it as it went under water it "bubbled" it's way across the river with the
bubbles breaking the surface into steam. We knew it had stopped before he
floated to the surface as there was a much larger "blurp" that came up as
the engine died and then it all went calm.

the old FJ10Z(?) was a 3 cyl two stroke

I think you'll find that one of the first model Suzuki 4wd's available here,
called the LJ50 I think, was indeed powered by a three cylinder engine and
if I remember correctly is was a two stroke as well.

It may not have been the very first model released here, but it was
certainly the most popular of the "old original" ones.
