In a word, yes. Flapping one's arms like a maniac is likely to cause more confusion than anything else. Besides, I've never had the indicators fail suddenly on a car. Because I have a proper modern car, the bulbs are monitored.

You now admit that you would drive untill you could find a spot off the motorway(Which could be many miles) to change a bulb and leave everyone guessing where you were going instead of using an arm signal.
