In a word, yes. Flapping one's arms like a maniac is likely to cause
more confusion than anything else. Besides, I've never had the
indicators fail suddenly on a car. Because I have a proper modern car,
the bulbs are monitored.

Oh, no it doesn't - my window is always open at built up area speeds,
simply so I make better use of my ears.

Monitored does not stop them from failing, it only tells you when they
have failed - past tense.

They may be monitored but that doesn't stop them
failing on a motorway.They also do not replace
theirselves.
You now admit that you would drive untill you
could find a spot off the motorway(Which could be
many miles) to change a bulb and leave everyone
guessing where you were going instead of using an
arm signal.
