Firstly have the auto box oil drained, flushed and refilled.

Secondly, it is normal for it to hold the gears longer when COLD as this
promotes faster warmup and lower emissions. - there is a temp sensor in the
box which, the signal of which you ought to check if it is no better after a
fluid change.

It's a pretty expensive process trying to change the entire contents of an
auto box, since the torque convertor contains a large quantity of fluid
which doesn't drain out with the rest. Obviously if you refill, run and
drain again some more will be changed. But to change it all costs.
