Hmmm...
So, we have one of two scenarios:
1. there are a lot of stupid drivers around, who all happen
to drive toyota priarses. (ok, it is tempting to say their
choice of vehicle proves their low intelligence).

2. quite likely that there is a fault in the computer
control of the throttle-by-wire, where it seems the computer
"locks-up" and no longer responds to input from the driver.
If this is the case, then I doubt the computer could be
relied upon to accurately record events such as brake pedal
press, so IMO just because the computer says it wasn't
pressed, doesn't provide any proof one way or the other.

I hope to hell the brakes in these things are traditional
hydraulic systems directly coupled to the brake pedal.
Heaven help us if they are brake-by-wire also.

What tempting? They *are* stupid.

If you want fuel economy, don't pick a Priarse, there are several
alternatives that outright use less fuel that it does.

If you want to save the earth, consider the significant resources
required to mine the materials, then process them, all requiring
significant amounts of energy, to create a rather large battery set -
even if you never have to replace them.

If you want to be revered and cheered as you drive by, well, let's just
say the Priarse would NOT be your first choice.

I'm not quite sure, that's *exactly* what's happening, I've mentioned
in another thread how a cellphone had caused a ford (which uses the same
steering system as the later Priarses) caused the steering to shudder
whenever the phone transmitted.
I had an elaborate opinion on the designers in this regard, so I won't
repeat it again.
Either way, my point was if they're that sloppy, they're going to be
sloppy in other areas too.

I've read up on the drive-by-wire steering, and verified there *is*
some redundancy in the system. That is, if you lose engine AND power,
you will still have steering.
I imagine that brakes would be the same. If you press them hard
enough, you won't have power assistance, but they WILL work.
I also mentioned the likelyhood of idiots incorporated who panic during
catastrophic failures, and cause significant carnage, where, the more
logical drivers would realise it's hit the fan and actually PRESS their
brakes hard instead of get onto the phone whining how hopeless their
Priarse is. Moments before they start driving into things.

Much irony. They show people who can easily help themselves but don't,
and then at the end talk about winning a personal trainer, a
dietician, and a 'life coach' (and more!) :/

LOL but I doubt such dumb behavior is confined to Americans.
