I drove all over the UK down roads I'd never been down. I wasn't
expected to know about the low bridges I came across beforehand yet by
using my eyes and brain, I managed to avoid any I couldn't get under.

I doubt someone as thick as that bus driver would work out what the

Only by luck. And the consideration of low bridges wasn't the point but
rather the routing through housing estates...

I actually believe that replacing airbags and seat belts with that spike
would make the roads a lot safer.

Knowing that you're going to be the first one to die if you get it wrong
would keep a lot of drivers more focused.

Mmm. I'd have said that "concentrating on the route" would typically tend
to involve noticing that the sky is considerably lower just ahead of the
bus. Wouldn't you?

For most of the last decade, I've owned a Ford Capri. One feature of
them is a steering wheel that sticks out a foot from the dashboard at
chest height. You are in no doubt that in the event of an accident what
you will hit as you go forward.
