Well one doesn't actually sit and stare at the screen. I listen and occasionally glance at the ETA or the countdown to a turn. For miles on end, there is nothing to hear and very little to see. Perhaps you need to try one out fully:)

Google maps gives the logical route and Google Earth provides the particular landmarks to look out for.
