I'm not sure I'd use the word scary, but it's certainly frequently /stressful/ driving on ring roads, gyratories, complicated series of A-road intersections and the like if you're not familiar with the layout. The main reason for this is that the associated road signing is generally appalling. Even if you have a basic idea ("I want to go straight through the first intersection, then go right a bit further on"), the signs advertising the correct lanes to achieve this are almost always placed too late to be useful, so unless you're a local who knows how the lane system works you have no choice but to guess and hope. Inveitably, sometimes you end up in the wrong lane and have to cut into the correct lane, as most other drivers will be fuckheads who'll try to block you out unless you force your way in. Yes, stressful.

From: Andreas Tschoeke on 4 Dec 2009 02:03 The scariest road for me ist the A90 through Aberdeen. I regularly spend my holidays in Scotland for over 30 years now, but I never got accustomed to the sheer number of roundabouts on that rather short distance. 10 years ago I decided to circumvent Aberdeen altogether, because that strip of road caused real headaches for me. Beeing a big city, Aberdeen drivers are not very forgiving concerning stressed continetal drivers, especially when commuter traffic stes off ;-) I more than once got lost on some middle lane and it took me several 'round abouts' to leave where I originally intended to.
