You're no doubt aware that your "genuine Toyota" nudge bar will be a proprietary brand (TJM, ECB, etc). If you look close enough you'll almost certainly find the manufacturer's ID plate, very likely well hidden from view. With the only difference in the "genuine" part being the price. ;-) There's absolutely no difference between "genuine Ford", "genuine Mazda" or an aftermarket ECB to suit mine. All are airbag compliant, except some models don't have airbags. AFAIK there's also an issue with pedestrian safety which is probably covered by ADR as well. You'd be hard put to buy a substantial bull bar to suit anything other than a large truck nowadays. -- John H

But just looking at it I suspect it's fairly collapsable in a serious event. I wish I still had the the bullbar it came with. It didn't look much different to the new ones, but that one took a 5-foot roo at 120kmh and only bent the indicator assembly area a little bit. Later, an insuranceco-approved repairer saw fit to remove it completely and replace it with some new contraption when I dared claim something-or-other years later and they noticed "damage" to the bullbar.

The transport company I used to work didn't have any bullbars on its trucks. Daryl

My mate a couple of doors up (the one who's wife owns my old Cherokee) went out recently and bought a couple of grands worth of "genuine" accessories for his '04 model 100 series "Kakadu" Cruiser, which included a pair of front door weathershields, bonnet and headlight protectors, a rear wind deflector (which is a piece of moulded black plastic that glues onto the top of the rear door and is supposed to prevent the rear window from getting dirty) and a *huge* polished aluminium bullbar. All of it came straight from a delaership in pretty "Toyota Genuine Accessory" marked boxes, and all of it has "Toyota" clearly marked on each item that was put on during the manufacturing process, yet all of it (including the bullbar) was made in Australia by third party companies. The bullbar had a manufacturer's tag rivetted to the underside (which I think was TJM) and all of the plastic gear had the manufacturer's details in small print on the fitting instruction sheets. His "Genuine Toyota" towbar (which was on the vehicle when he bought it) was made by Hayman Reece. -- Regards, Noddy. |
