Nope, if you think they'll never be used outside of those "prescribed
locations", you're dreaming!

: Anyway, the one exception I mentioned above was the down
: section of the Toowoomba range - it has had many accidents
: and mostly speed related, BUT - they have mostly been heavy
: vehicle accidents, and although speed related, good chance
: they were still less than the speed limit. The main reason
: HV's come to grief is that they don't go low enough on their
: gears at the top, and run out of brakes half way down. Too
: fast for the conditions and vehicle, probably still much
: less than the posted limit.

And at the tail end of a lovely corner where you can let the brakes off and quickly get over the
posted limit by 10 and ya gone. Almost got done there a couple of weeks back. was doing the limit in
teh corner and when I let go (still not under throttle) I was over by 15 within a very short period.
Luckily there was a B-Double blocking his view. Only picked that he was there by my passenger.

:
: The Toowoomba range has such a bad record, that they decided
: to grace it with a fixed camera - on the up section on a
: very small section where the road levels out after 10%
: grades. In 30'odd years of being in the district I can't
: recall a single accident on the up section.

And wouldnt ya have to be a fricken Womble to crash there! Safest peice of road for miles.

Maybe you should stop playing "ugly sister" ;-) ) and get out
more Athol. :-)

Most fixed camera's on the H'way near me and on the way to
Tamworth have a couple of "memorial sites" near them. I don't
believe the RTA erect them either.

Article in today's newspaper says us lucky Melbourians will soon have
another 73 (that's not a typo) speed/red light cameras collecting taxes
very soon, they are currently under test.
Its no wonder that for me driving has now become a chore to avoid where
ever possible, its so dangerous with everyone spending 90% of their time
watching their speedos instead of the road.
