Which welder
Just finished doing the mods to my SIP Migmate 130. Basically, changed the crappy motor drive system to PWM. Used a board from Jaycar. It's now rock steady at as slow a speed as I'll need. Downside is the feed speed no longer changes with the power setting - but since it never seemed to be correct anyway, no big de... 13 Aug 2010 20:11
Advice from the usual suspects, please ?
Hi all. Missus has got it into her head that she fancies a Vee Dubbya Tow-Rag. Not a new one. Probably something around 06. Anything particular to look out for ? Anything considered particularly bad about them ? Petrol or diesel ? Engine size ? Any thoughts - practical, owning, or repairing - appreciated. What... 13 Aug 2010 09:15

June 2001 3 door Focus 2.0 ESP handbrake cable
Last job to do before an MOT is replace the above (rear disc brake model) because it's seized on one side. I've got the right cable (I hope) and I'm only replacing the back section to both sides not the bit that connects to the handbrake. I'm hoping it can all be done from underneath without removing the handbr... 10 Aug 2010 09:09

Anyone know old 2LToyota petrol lumps (and towbars) please?
Hi, Potential SIL has recently bought an old (83,YN65 3Y) but fairly well loved for most of it's life Toyota HiLux 4x4, 2L petrol with just over 100K miles on the clock. He's just driven it back down from Scotland to Herts, admittedly fairly well loaded (and probably not very 'gently' knowing him) and it took... 11 Aug 2010 07:08
Noise From Rear - Possible Fuel Tank
Posted in wrong group (misc) so apologies for cross post. Passat 2004 130 TDi: quite a racket coming from what sounds like the fuel tank area. I'll have to get under it at the weekend and investigate, but it sounds like the rear o/s area. If I boot it, it goes away for a second or two and comes back. Car runs and... 12 Aug 2010 10:25
Corsa wipers going slow
Daughter rang last night and said her 04 1.3 cdti corsa windscreen wipers had started only working slowly. Before I head over for a look anyone had this problem before. If it means a new wiper motor mechanism how easy to change and anyone an idea of cost. Thanks Bob ... 12 Aug 2010 04:59
Ford Focus dipstick tube
June 2001 Focus 2.0 ESP. I've been running an ST170 exhaust manifold which a friend fitted for me a few years ago but I'm putting it back to standard at the moment. Dishonest about selling a car
What amusing phone call might be made to a not very nice bloke and his not very nice pal, who are re-advertising a car for sale that actually looks reasonably good, supposedly a lady owner, and only a small milage on it; but in reality is a worn out piece of rubbish. And they know this full well. It's easily g... 4 Aug 2010 12:33
New tyres with old ones
The manufacturer of my car specified Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres as the OEM so I thought I'd replace like for like. Unfortunately though, I needed all four replacing and just could not afford it all at once. A/C top-up kit result.
On the 3rd of this month I enquired here about using a kit on my E39. I'm not suggesting that any of the advice I received from my original was bad. If one can afford it, there's no doubt that having a competent A/C professional do the job is the better way to go. My system was working but not cooling as well a... 6 Aug 2010 11:37
Zafira timed interval wiping
Is it possible to add timed interval wiping to a Zafira B if it doesn't already have it? It's an option, and mine (second hand, 1.9 SRi) doesn't seem to have it. If so, is it mechanical or a software mod? The manual says to push the stalk down, wait until the desired interval is reached, then move the stalk... 30 Jul 2010 05:22

New registration plate numbers
In October new cars will have new 'year numbers'. Given that the next in the sequence would be 60 (I think) but my wife, who's obsessed with car numbers, says it can't be but can't say what it should be, can anyone say whether I'm right or wrong and tell me the correct number?
