I would be better informed about the science, but I am actually interested on
their effect on my system - that effect may be purely psychological, but if
the effect is enough to give more pleasure to the music, then that is reason
enough to use them.

Yes, my entire system was at the dealers. I tried various products and picked
the one I liked best. A few times I have purchased speakers that sounded good
in the dealership, but didn't sound good at home. Eventually, after many
listening sessions, I found speakers that fit in nicely. Same with the
interconnects.

If taking a placebo helped ones body fight an infection through a
sychological response, then that only goes to prove how one must not only
address the science in such things.
