If someone can walk to their corner shop to buy a few items and carry them
home why would they drive to a supermarket?

Not everyone has such a time-free life as you, popping over to supermarket
every couple of days for 1 'carry's worth of food? I certainly don't. I like
to go once a week or once a fortnight and stock up on the heavy things, then
carry it home in the boot of my car. Time saved, which can be spent with my
family and friends.

"A man who, beyond the age of 26, finds himself in a corner shop can
count himself as a failure." (To mangle a quote attributed to

I'm sure it is if you love driving miles for groceries.

They do it because the sites are cheaper and people are stupid.
