I vote for teleporting, should be much easier to implement than a new freeway
alignment.

Actually Hwy 17 crosses the San Andreas Fault fairly early past Los Gatos
where the highway isn't too curvy. It crosses the San Andreas Fault
basically right after it goes by the Lexington Reservoir right before it
veers to its left (southbound). Nor would any tunneling be needed to
straighten out the highway, just additional bridges and trestles.

Like the one the Geico gecko used to use?

I don't. With the reduced commute times, that's too likely to allow
"those people" to live "here", and we have too many of "those kinds of
people" here already.

On the other hand, giant catapults would be useful for all sorts of
things.

A: They vote for the Leftist/Socialist/Marxist "Progressive" rulers of
Santa Cruz!
