I was then asked when did I move here. I told them I was born here. They told me they had lived in Oregon for 7 years and I was the first person they had met here that was actually born here - almost everyone else was an ex-Californian. So, all those people who you saw welcoming Californians to leave? Most likely, they were ex-Californians themselves. The joys of the hypocracy of the human nature! In any event, if teleportation becomes a reality, it is really going to make for some interesting adjustments for those who view certain groups of people as undesirable, and put whatever group you care to name in the "undesirable" bracket. It would also mean for some other interesting adjustments. For example, you could work in San Francisco, and do your shopping here in Oregon (because our local politicians haven't yet figured out how to institute a sales tax) and live in Wyoming, because the housing is cheap and the neighbors a long way off. -- Please note this e-mail address is a pit of spam due to e-mail address harvesters on Usenet. I've seen a few airline schedules and at least one travel tour itenerary for a private entertainment group that listed a Portland, California as a destination. So there, is some truth to that. Though, in reality, during the last 50 years or so we have become more of a suburb of the Boeing corporation. In fact, Boeing has become so much a part of life in Portland, common directions to several major landmarks include such instructions such as "Turn left at the striking Boeing plant workers" since Boeing workers on strike have become a permanent fixture in one or two locations. -- Please note this e-mail address is a pit of spam due to e-mail address harvesters on Usenet. Trojan had so many defects in its construction that PGE finally shut the place down - not that it was really producing much power in the end anyway, since they were only able to get it to function about two months of the year. So, the latest thing they are protesting are the fur sellers. -- Please note this e-mail address is a pit of spam due to e-mail address harvesters on Usenet. It is rare to meet people (well, adults over 30) who are born here. Heck, we have 2 major party candidates for governor who are from out of state, acting like they know it all. And the current governor....well you know! D. |
