From: Kiteflyer on 9 Mar 2010 20:59 Filled in all details for car insurance. Specified certain things like low excess and protected no claims etc. A decent quote came up at the top of the pile from Kwik Fit, but I waited 2 days before trying to buy to see if I could find cheaper. Went back to quote 2 days later and it wouldn't let me buy it, you had to ask for a new set of quotes, and guess what, it had gone up loads in just 2 days. So I rang Kwik Fit/AXA as they were the ones quoting, and they said not only had the quote gone up for NO REASON in just 2 days, but that the excess was massive (they had ignored my request for £100 excess) and it wasn't protected no claims either. But the best bit was they said they were also adding on £25 when you go to buy, as a "set up" fee. Funny how that wasn't mentioned when Compare the Market tell you what a low quote they have found you! So a quote of £505 became £587! I told them where to go. Anyone else found this with these comparison sites like Confused.com, etc??

No. I found that the quote you get on the comparison site has a unique reference number. Call the insurance company direct and give them that number and they can pull up all the details straight away. This was when the comparison site was giving a much lower price than the renewal quote from the same company. They rang back a few mins later and were able to explain the difference (my fault for missing details of a previous claim). All in all the system works very well, just don't assume you will get the best quote from such sites. MBQ

Must be a reason for it. Like Direct Line? Put up my house insurance renewal by over 30% and hoped I'd not notice. Went to their site and filled in a 'new' proposal and got a quote for about 1/3rd of their renewal. Wrote to them and asked for an explanation. Got a load of waffle. And I had two cars with them too. Only one claim ever made on one car in about 7 years. Nothing on the house insurance. At renewal, got a reasonable quote on one car - after haggling with them - so kept that one. Moved the other and saved 50%. -- *Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film* Dave Plowman dave(a)davesound.co.uk London SW 12

They rely on you giving accurate details. Not unsurprisingly. -- *On the other hand, you have different fingers* Dave Plowman dave(a)davesound.co.uk London SW 12
