LOL, what's interesting is that for cars in that class prices have
hardly changed in the last 10yrs but you get a lot more for the money now.
We bought a new 2001 Corolla and paid about $23,000, you wouldn't pay
much more for a 2010 Corolla.

yup and get more fruit for your money :-)
Wife LOVES her little Corolla Wagon so I'm not going to tempt fate just yet,
when she grows weary I will try and steer her towards the Golf, I had a play
in one of the new Golf Wagons the other day and they have lots of bells and
whistles (but at a price of course)
Still waiting to play with a DSG though as this one was the 6 speed manual.

So why didn't you haggle them for 12 months petrol as well if you really
think there is no end to the haggling game? In fact why did you pay so much?
Fact is the dealer knows at what price it is no longer profitable for him to
sell. You won't go below that point unless he has a good reason, and if he
does, then you are just as likely to get a cheaper price as replacement
mirrors.
But hey, you can believe whatever you want, even if it's nonsense.
