From: Kipling on 6 Oct 2009 18:13 Slightly OT, but i know lots of people here are Costco members... Before i go and splash out on a membership i would like some idea of the prices to see if it worth my while, but my local depot wont give me them without the 27 membership. I am after a couple of mid-range tyres 175/70/R14s (I have been looking at some Avons CR322s but am open to suggestions on reasonable tyres) - supply only. and also a Decent mid-range battery 44Ah 12v type for a Combo Van. and completley OT do they sell Heinz Cream of Celary soup because i can't get it anywhere! TIA Tom

Costco only sell Michelin tyres. They can do supply only, but since fitting, valve, balance, filled with nitrogen and old tyre disposal is only 3 pounds a tyre it is not really worth it, even if you have a modern tyre machine and balancer! They only sell Bosch batteries in a limited range. I have never noticed Heinz Cream of Celery soup. They do have Lloyd Grossman soups at a bargain price, and they are really good. I will be going to Costco either today or tomorrow, so I will get you a price on that size tyre and the battery if they have it, and have a look in the soup area. Over 99 per cent of my household shop is done in Costco, and I am amazed at how much people pay for inferior food and household stuff elsewhere.

Thanks for the recommendations Tom

For comparison, Michelin Saver at the same dimension (175/70R14T) on etyres are 69.30. I remember not long ago saving significantly more on Costco compared to Kwik-Fit and the like. I guess this is still the case, but one now has more options. :-) Re general shopping, I like their groceries too, but I find the quantities too vast to manage. -- Kostas
