I would agree that many bikers do make basic errors, as do many car drivers. I would point out that in (at least some) IAM sections undertaking is not regarded as a problem. It is actually possible on a clear moonlit night to drive up the A1 at 50+MPH with no lights on whatsover and still see perfectly well enough to keep in your own lane and avoid any obstacles.
