No, not really.

It's a classic inferiority complex. Somebody is slightly different in
their tastes, preferences or beliefs, therefore he's afraid they're
_better_ than he is, so to counter-act that, he has to belittle and
disdain those differences. It's the only way he can hold his head up in
public. "I think/do it, therefore it _must_ be the best way".

Thankfully very rare. I have no wish to work for anal retentive push bike
riders, who would probably be to tight to afford my services anyway.

No argument left, insults instead.

I don't think it's him failing to understand here.

Clue:

Somebody in the Medway Towns sees your (presumably signwritten) van - or
maybe just decides they need a handyman service.

They google for "Medway Handyman".
They find a couple of alternatives in the first couple of results. They
think "Ooh, I'll look a bit further through, see if there's any comments
on the quality of their work".

What do you think starts on page 2 of the google results? Yep, your
usenet postings.

Good job I have a clean licence then isn't it?

Oh sorry, you wouldn't understand 'licence' would you, not needing one to be
a freeloading unregulated cyclist.
