I have no idea. If you ask your MP nicely he'll ask a question in Parliament to find out if you really want to know. One thing I am certain of though. The "eightfold" argument is a fallacy. VED is a tax imposed on someone who wants to run a car. It's got absolutely nothing to do with the cost of building or maintaining the roads. -- Pete

I never claimed it was - the point is that all council tax payers are making a contribution to funding of local highways. Motorists contribute more which seems fair given that cars cause more wear and tear. SW
