Typical american response to a substandard american system is to make
out the person who points out it is substandard to be lazy, ignorant, or
something else negative. To point out that he has some personal failing
for not wanting to take extra time dealing with the substandard system.
But there's enough market economy left where a person can simply choose
to avoid as much of it as he can. Maybe those concerned with commerce
would seek to have better signage for the road system.

Maybe "Previous exit, Smithville".

How about "Smithville, that-a-way ->"

Maybe I should say Hardy St/98W? ;)

If you want 98, the choice is obvious. For services, the choices are not as
obvious.
