From: Petrol Head on 6 Apr 2010 04:50 Hello fellow roads enthusiasts! I've recently taken up the challenge of driving every mile of public road in the UK. I guess lots of other people on this forum are doing the same (or have already finished?!) so any advice would be welcomed! Any tips for planning routes to maximize road coverage, any pitfalls or particularly awkward roads to cover (lack of local facilities, passes closed in winter etc.) - also do you insist on going both ways or is travelling a road in one direction enough for you to "count" it? I guess people also have funny stories about things that went wrong - spent a night somewhere remote to get the last road in a region and it turned out to be closed, that sort of thing - doing something like this must give you some great memories to look back on, even if not such fun at the time... Cheers!

In my youth I drove right round the coast and I've driven pretty much all the routes that go anywhere nice in the Highlands, Cumbria and Wales. Of necessity I've also driven most of the motorways BUT as for A roads in built up areas, or the thousands of roads in the back streets of cities, no way! -- Mike. .. .
