Yesterday I was stuck in a Motorway jam for well over an hour and my bladder
was getting dangerously full. From the highway code site
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_069862 all
they say is you can only stop in an emergency etc, but surely in this case I
have become unfit to drive and it is an emergency. The thought of stopping
on the hard shoulder EVER is scary enough these days and I certainly agree
it should not be used just because someone is uncomfortable, but when its at
the point of you either stop of wet your pants and car seat what else can
you do? Even pissing into a container would be very dangerous while driving.
I've tried it in a carpark and needed my full attention, no to mention BOTH
hands.

Whilst the cause may be different I guess the health risk is the same.

It is a serious issue - you can't concentrate on driving if you are stressed
by the state of your bladder and bowel. It is bad enough worrying about
missed appointments. Fortunately having a mobile phone helps as at least you
can defuse the pressure by phoning ahead to give apologies
