England used to be a country largely thinking itself above such naive
patriotism. The US is well known for flying the stars and stripes
almost everywhere, as if they might forget what country they are in.

or looking at it the other way round, knowledge from the media of non
British tennis players who reach world number 1 but do not well at
wimbledon. I much prefer "supporting" entertaining players rather than
British players, especially as its the surly scot at the moment.
