Hi as a lady driver with little knowledge of cars I hope someone can help. I
Have a fiat brava 1.2 Treg. Last year it failed MOT on emissions and i paid
alot of money for a new CAT converter, today the car has failed again on
Emissions as follows Fast idle CO 0.468(fail) Lambda 1.049 (fail) all other
on fast idle pass. Second Fast idle CO 0.555 Lambda 1.040 all other pass.
Nautral Idel CO 0.568 Fail. It also says above the tests Engine oil
temperature measurement was by-passed.(cooling fan cut in)surely i dont have
to replace the CAT Converter again. Is there anything else that could cause
this? also i had notice a few things this last few weeks im using quite a
bit more petrol and had first put this down to the rise in cost also
sometimes the car spluters alittle sometime a bit like if you were going to
run out of fuel, i have had the car for around 18months and i have not had
the filter changed or plugs but not sure if this makes a difference to to
Emissions (lady drivers!!) can anyone help me please
thanks
Bev

How often do you have the car serviced? It is entirely possible that you
have another failed cat. Poor running can wreck a cat in a very short time.
First step will be to have the car properly serviced, part of which will be
to check the emissions and correct whatever is needed.

I think you might be being unfair to Fiats. Whatever car you have you're
likely to have these problems if you don't have it serviced. I know
these things cost money but they are part of running a car. You wouldn't
avoid filling it with petrol if it was low would you, in order to save
money? Servicing is much the same.

hi if the credit crunch had not been here theni would have had it serviced but due to lack of funds( after purchasing a fiesta that it got ripped off with and lost £500 on it in just 3 weeks) i didnt get it done ive had the car around 18months but it hadnt long been serviced when i had it and new stuff on it. Hope it isnt the Cat dont have another £200 to replace it this year ive been told that a small amount of welding had to be done on back quarter to, plus advisory note of break pipes discs pads and shockers so not got the cash when there ready which obviousely isnt going to be long,in 12months ive spent around £340 without this MOT i only bought the car for £600. Just seems fiat cost alot for repairs like when the exhaust came off at the back had to have a complete one well over £100 i could cry, when your a working single mum and trying to spred the cost of every penny, that was why i wanted others advice dont want to get ripped off if it could be something else that wasnt going to cost to much
