I've never paid $80 for any Toyota air filter, the TD Hilux filter cost
me about $50.00 and its about twice the size of the filter in any small
car, I haven't owned a Corolla since 2006 so I would know what the
current price is for a Corolla air filter but I knwo I have never paid
even close to $80.
If Astra brake parts are as cheap as you say then it seems a lot of
people are being ripped off because all the owners who mentioned how
expensive the things were complained they didn't get much change from
$500 for an Astra front pad and rotor change and all of them complained
that they needed changing every 40,000klms.

If that was the case why do owners complain about how expensive they are
to maintain?

Seems the Toyota spare parts bloke doesn't like you, tell me the exact
models and I'll check those prices:-)
I bought lots of parts for the AE86 when I was installing the 4AGZE and
even despite a couple of suspension parts being needed to be imported
from Japan none were overly expensive.
People complain about Honda parts prices but I've never found then to be
over the top expensive, I even found some genuine parts for a Prelude
were cheaper than aftermarket, a genuine T belt was half the price of an
after market belt, I was even amazed that a genuine rear muffler was
cheaper.

Service items are items that wear and need to be done as a matter of course,
when neccesary. Brakes fall into that category, obviously.

I didn't say it was a myth, but the nonsense you spout is myth based.

None of which changes the fact that to own and operate an Astra was cheaper
than that of a Corolla, all things considered.
