The lack of grip or ability to stay in a straight line is a lot more to
do with your suspension than your tyres.
1960's sports cars were never meant to go off road especially those with
live axles and very firm springs:-)

There's no such thing as good tyres for gravel... suffice that they
survive such roads (which is all that rally tyres are meant to do).

Unless you're planning on getting a lot practice it might be best to
go for a conventional car with stability control. :)
