Yes, but they do not include "failing to be cut off by someone who
immediately brakes" nor "failing to keep a safe distance from the
vehicle to your rear". These pileups often include a lot of both.

I'm talking about people who run into the car in front of them. If somebody
ahead immediately brakes, then you brake and stop. They won't have any more
braking ability than you. If you run into them then you were following too
close, probably making contact before even noticing that the vehicle ahead had
slowed down.

The multihundred car pileups are due to people driving like it's a
clear 70 degree day in LA when the roads are prone to turning into
ice skating rinks, driving less than a half second following distance
when the driving distance ought to be a 4-5 seconds.

They have such icey and low visibility driving conditions in the northeast often
enough. You don't get multihundred car pileups there because people there
have learned to respect the weather and don't drive like they're on an an LA
freeway during such conditions.
