Of course, a Greek *calculated* the diameter of the earth over two thousand years ago from the length of shadows at two cities. And every sailor knew why ships dipped below the horizon, without falling off the edge :-). However that didn't stop the Church still claiming the earth was flat, and the centre of the solar system/universe up until a couple of hundred years ago. So people weren't *allowed* to admit otherwise when the church controlled the courts, no matter how many thought like Galileo. MrT. |
