From: Jason James on 10 Aug 2010 15:32 Obviously, the US did the lion's share of battling the Japanese in the Pacific,..and had more than a trifling hand in defeating the Axis in Europe,..but I notice on war-docos, other countries, hardly or simply dont get a mention. Some balance please! Jason

Yank doco's focus on the yank's presence, pommie ones focus on the poms, aussie doco's on the aussies etc. I wonder what a doco made by the krauts or nips would be like? -- What is the difference between a duck?

They paid a very high price, as did the Germans and when the Germans lost it on the Eastern front (Stalingrad, Kursk) I think a lot of the commanders knew this wasn't going to end well for them. Combined with the allies, Germany got put back in it's place as their diminished luftwaffe and the pressure on the western front broke it's back. Then the US claimed it won the war, the Jews acted like they were the only ones sent to concentration camps, the Soviets decided to overstay their welcome in a bunch of eastern block countries and the Poms decided to meddle in politics and set up a Jewish state in Palestine because nobody really wanted them. Or something like that...

How unfair. Yes,..Von Braun who presided over the V1 and V2 rocket powered flying bombs project, and the use of POWs and Jews/other "Untermeschen" (sp) to death in many cases, becomes a celebrity member of the US space-race effort. It's not who you are, but what you can do. Any other figure of authority involved with the misuse of labour would have most likely faced the NMT. Jason |
