It's all paid for out of general taxation. "Who" (exactly) pays for the roads is the UK taxpayer, but the UK taxpayer does not "have it how they like". They have it how the Guvvermunt like. The anonymity of the web covers many character defects, does it not. I too cycle rather than walk due to disability - which in my case is only having one leg. Walking is possible, but tiring and often painful. Cycling is a joy - distances can be covered for such (relative) lack of effort. Keep at it, pal, but I would agree that avoiding Friday afternoons in most UK built-up areas is not a bad idea. Allen, NW London.
