Perhaps we should have left it to Madagascar to rescue her - she was
closer to Antananarivo than to Perth.

The fishing vessel that rescued her wasn't Australian, I don't know who
paid for the aircraft that originally located her, the media said the
plane was "chartered" but nothing I read or heard said who paid so why
is everyone assuming the Australian Govt did?

Thy are not assuming. It *was* chartered by the Aus Govt., at a reported
cost of $200,000.00

Where was it reported?
I reread a few articles on the subject and they didn't say that, I'm not
saying you are wrong but the details are difficult to find.

There was an announcement on today's radio news that the Federal Government
will be "contributing" to the cost of rescuing the girl. Exactly how much
they'll be forking out wasn't mentioned.
