I've been pondering on buying some kind of induction kit and this one seems
a fair price and I read good things about it. Also adds a nice tone to the
engine.

Anyone know much about this particular kit and if its worth a punt ? Never
actually bought one before so new terriotry tbh.

I wouldn't bother.

Mostly, they move the air intake from somewhere nice and cold behind the
front bumper, to somewhere it'll be sucking in warm air in the engine
bay.

If you want to save on servicing costs, buy a K&N panel filter.

The 57i isn't much cop really, if you want one you really need to spend the
200ish on a Pipercross Viper/K&N Typhoon/BMC CDA etc - the sealed induction
type which, despite what anyone on here will tell you - do actually make a
slight power increase, although to be fair we're talking like, 5bhp heh.

In panel filters, my preference would be for something made by 'Green' as
their cotton filters are reputedly the most free flowing. Also, in the Golf
airbox is anything like the Leon cupra R airbox there is noise and ponies to
be liberated by de-restricting it and fitting a bigger intake pipe - I'm
unsure whether this is applicable to the Golf though, you're probably best
off asking on one of the VAG forums.

That depends they do flow more air as will the K&N, they have a bad name
because of idiots who just bolt them to the top of the throttle housing where
they suck in hot air and when freshly cleaned and oiled being right on top
they can gum up AFMs. It's become cool to bash induction kits.

Induction kits are pretty much always shite though. Panel filters work much,
much better on road cars.

My ol' Cosworth lost 30 odd bhp when using a 57i instead of a K&N panel
filter. I wouldn't recommend that anyone who can avoid using an "induction
kit" uses one.

Having said that, my Range Rover has something very similar to a 57i, but
only because there's no room for a proper filter.
