From: George Orwell on 1 May 2010 07:00 What the use of "Dual-fuel"? These will not start on LPG, you have to start on petrol, then switch over. So what happens when you run out of petrol? If you spray Aerostart into the air filter, the motor will fire for 2 seconds, but it won't reach 1500 RPM required for the LPG to take over. So you are fuggered. Did John Howard have a mate in the LPG industry? You start on lpg. Of course, if you had enough brains to eat a red smartie you'd fill up the petrol tank before it was bone dry. > If you spray Aerostart into the air filter, the > motor will fire for 2 seconds, but it won't reach > 1500 RPM required for the LPG to take over. > So you are fuggered. If you have a dual fuel system that requires petrol to start the engine (and not all of them do) then you'd be a fuckwit to let the car run out of petrol, huh? > Did John Howard have a mate in the LPG industry? I don't think John Howard has any mates, but I'm very thankful that he saw fit to pass the lpg rebate bill. It put 4 grand into my pocket and then some :) -- Regards, Noddy.

Thirty years ago I had a company dyna with dual fuel, it started and ran on gas, only used petrol when gas ran out to get to garage to refill or long trips.

Depends on the car,..a cold Cleveland will run on both fuels until the petrol empties the carby bowl. But otherwise you ran it on petrol until you had enough road to run it on petrol with no further top-up,..then when the engine stumbled, flick it to gas. So what happens when you run out of > petrol? Yeah,..Mine did not have that 2000 rpm feature. > So you are fuggered. > Did John Howard have a mate in the LPG industry? Sounds like a PIA unless you have that piece of road :-) Jason

One says: "Do not depress accelerator when starting hot or cold" and the other one: "Important EFI Vehicles Maintain 1/4 tank of petrol at all times" So I do and the car doesn't run out of petrol :) -- Posted at www.usenet.com.au |
