I can't speak for other states, but this sort of stuff is the norm in Melbourne. In Aussie rules footy at lest, and has been for years. I knew blokes I grew up with getting massive 'handballs' when playing EDFL, which is more or less just local teams (or supposed to be) and they were getting weekly sums in brown paper bags (so to speak) the equivalent of more than a week's wage at any reasonable job. Stands to reason the higher up the pyramid one goes, the higher the handouts. Heck the same thing occured and has for decades with olympic athletes. I'm not saying it's kosher (and for the record I don't really give a darn about melbourne storm) but I am surprised that anyone is surprised by such things. -- John McKenzie tosspam(a)aol.com abuse(a)yahoo.com abuse(a)hotmail.com abuse(a)earthlink.com abuse(a)aol.com vice.president(a)whitehouse.gov president(a)whitehouse.gov sweep.day(a)accc.gov.au uce(a)ftc.gov admin(a)loopback abuse(a)iprimus.com.au $LOGIN(a)localhost I knew Sanchez before they were dirty root(a)mailloop.com $USER@$HOST $LOGNAME(a)localhost -h1024(a)localhost abuse(a)msn.com abuse(a)federalpolice.gov.au fraudinfo(a)psinet.com abuse(a)asio.gov.au $USER(a)localhost abuse(a)sprint.com abuse(a)fbi.gov abuse(a)cia.gov

Truth be told, it'd be impossible to get to an internationally competitive level in any olympic sport (that actually requires athleticism, I don't necessarily count skeet shooting) - and there's no secret at all amongst the players about it. Yet they have to go through the motions, and condemn whomever gets caught, as if the group of those caught = the group of those using drugs. In reality they all are, it's inevitible. The best way one could describe it is thusly - if someone really was able to match the drug users and remain natural, what the hell would stop them using and being invincible.... Another interesting point - take away the drugs, and the same athletes will still be at the top, just the relative performances would be lower. Ultimately it's down to genetics (since one could surmise that short of a few impoverished muckholes, training and nutrition is fairly much the same around the world). But come out and say this sort of thing, and you're kicked of out the AIS as a coach, no matter how true it is. One of the 'cool' things about the formerly good (and now just troll central) misc.fitness.weights was that the chemist behind the balco scandal (the untestable steroid they'd developed) and a few other similar biochem genii (pl of genius???) were frequent, and somewhat frank posters. The old saying - you can fool the fans but you can't fool the players. > I also quite liked the excuse from the guy who apparently set the > whole thing up for the storm. "Everybody else was doing it." :-) no doubt it's true, and I say that without any hint of negativity to those doing it. It's big money, they'd have a screw loose to choose to be wooden spooners but 'honest' which is the only other song playing. > > If they bust every team for similar salary cap breaches, will they > cancel the entire season?
