Are you David Hansen in disguise? As this year has yet to end we won't count our chickens just yet, but it looks like it will be another one where a cyclist has not killed a pedestrian on the pavement. DfT figures give the number killed at between 0 and 1 per year. If you get your calculator out and invent any number of miles that the country's cyclists cover in a year and divide it by 0, you will get "Error". That's because it can't compute infinity, but this means that it doesn't matter how many miles they cover in comparison to drivers as any number divided by 0 will give you the same answer - infinity. -- Simon Mason

I've got 7 bikes alone, but then again, I have a car and don't drive Dave's stated average motorists' mileage of 12000 miles, so it is dangerous to extrapolate your own local experience to national average statistics. -- Simon Mason

Indeed. The old 'Roy Castle' chestnut. Non smokers do contract lung cancer, but its an entirely different form to that of smokers & occurs in a different part of the lung. The 11,000 figure BTW has also been the 9,000 figure. Thats for smokers in the UK. The 'official' figure for Europe is 16,000. Go figure. -- Dave - The Tax Paying Motorist

No problem.... Where are all the cyclists on the roads within a 30 mile radius of my house? There are hardly any at all. You're lucky to see one per day. -- Conor www.notebooks-r-us.co.uk I'm not prejudiced. I hate everybody equally. |
