Nb: I think this whole "vertical cities" thing is about as loony as the
rest of the stuff[1] posts. However the heating/cooling could be done in
a reasonably 'green' way - the city is going to produce a lot of waste.
Incinerate it within the city, producing some electrical power and quite
a lot of heat which you then feed into a district heating system. (Or
use the heat in an absorption chiller and have a district cooling
network.)

Heating might not be so much of a problem come to think of it? Assume an
equal number of people at an equal density, then there'll be much less
external surfaces to lose heat from.

no plans to own a car in the future and has only made ~8 car journeys

It's not quite as loony as his "two types of ozone" theory. Or, for
that matter, his "different types of dead, depending on how you are
killed" theory.

Gollum is great entertainment, I'll give him that.

He is also the most 'rammed' cyclist in the history of the world.

Ah, but that is not his fault. Ever.

The developers of the tower have made a handsome profiit is only the
late customers who are suffering. Of course, all of this during a
world-wide downturn which would not apply normally.

I am sure that pollution would be exceeded by years of equivalent car
use.

Hopefully. It would be so much better for consumers to learn to
economise and stop energy wastage in advance instead of doing things
the hard way..
