Stainless is no harder to weld than aluminised steel... both need a mig. Nullarbor is probably OK but I'd suggest staying well away from Nullmigs. ;-) Aluminised steel from a reputable exhaust shop is the way to go unless the original factory system is stainless, or part thereof (quite a few are). Stay well away from it otherwise as it's expensive, ultra thin and usually sounds shithouse. -- John H

It is also still on the car after 10 years and around 170,000+ k's I expect it to see the car to the wreckers baring any mishaps with obstacles.

As well it should but you didn't go and specifically pay for it it came standard I haven't looked under the Prado to see what it's exhaust is made of My old Ba's exhaust was 7 years old with 136,000 klms and showed no signs of corrosion, it wasn't stainless Kev

Tailpipes often rust out because they don't get hot enough to get rid of the moisture which causes the rust, try fitting either a stainless tailpipe or buy a genuine spare part instead of aftermarket. People often buy aftermarket parts before checking genuine prices but aftermarket isn't always cheaper, for example that last time I checked a rear muffler for an 89 Honda Prelude is cheaper from Honda than from Midas by about $50.00.
