Two things:

Firstly, many of the traffic lights in my area have a green box at the
front for cyclists which is full lane width.

Secondly: When you're taught to ride a bike, you're taught road position
which is roughly where they were.

No, you are right - responding to other road users who are using the
road in accordance with the markings set out by hammering on the horn
and contemplating a physical assault on them is not acceptable.

I suggest you surrender your driving licence until you've calmed down
a bit.
