Just wanted to know if it was the norm. It seems outrageous when fine for more than 20 kph in a school zone is the same $422. John G.

I remember getting a parking fine in Brisbane once, the huge amount of $5.00 this was back in 1988, some time the BCC realise that $5.00 wasn't really a deterrent since all day parking was more than double that It's now significantly more than $5.00 also with parking fines, left unpaid you might find that one day you no longer have a license and much higher fines to pay Kev

I don't want to condone parking in a disabled spot, it is a low act. But seriously, the penalties for different "crimes" seem all out of whack with the severity of the crime. I've seen plenty of cases where people have fronted the beak for assault or robbery, and have come away with a lesser penalty. What message are we sending, when the penalty for parking in the wrong space is greater than the penalty for stealing or hurting someone? > > John G. -- What is the difference between a duck?

It's the penalties for misdemeanors that are out of whack with crimes... guess which one of those the government can't make pay! A few years back I got nailed for speeding (cop hiding behind a tree with a radar gun). On the same day cops from the same police station caught a couple of burglars armed with a shotgun knocking off some goods that had been donated to charity. Their fines were exactly the same as mine ($180 apiece) with no other penalty. I lost 4 demerit points. I'm guessing the shame of it all is supposed to be their punishment whereas I didn't feel even the slightest pang of guilt. ;-) -- John H
