Yup, UK is one of the cheapest places in W.Europe to run a car and the
cheaper countries have road tolls, (lots of 'em).

The UK is one of the most expensive countries in Europe to buy new
cars and to buy fuel for them. France has a lot of toll roads, but you
don't have to use them, as the national (toll free) roads are quite
good anyway.

The Tories are more likely than (Nu) Labour to be motorist friendly.
No idea what the Lib-Dems would be like.

Yes, but considering the need to squeeze every penny of tax they can,
it's not likely that fuel duty would be reduced to relieve the high
petrol prices. Hell, they were even off on the toll-road debate again
not long ago.

Considering they like to see themselves as the Greenest of them all,
increases in travel-related taxation would be pretty likely.
